Peace of Sleep™, the world's first certification standard addressing allergy management and sleep hygiene in hospitality, has been launched from Cape Town, South Africa. With an estimated one in three guests living with some form of allergy sensitivity, Peace of Sleep™ closes a gap that sits at the centre of the guest experience.

Every hotel operates a housekeeping standard, a linen standard, and a turndown standard. Until now, none has operated a standard for the one space where guests spend 50% of their stay: the mattress. Charlie Wright, CEO and founder of Peace of Sleep™, says: “Every part of the guest experience gets scrutinised, except this one. Properties have wellness menus, aromatherapy and mood lighting, all addressing the guest experience. But almost none offer a specific or provable assurance for the bed they will sleep in.”

Since its soft launch in March 2026, uptake has moved quickly for the service. The Tintswalo Collection recently became the first boutique hospitality group in South Africa to hold Peace of Sleep™ certification across all of its properties, a milestone that serves as early validation of the appetite for the service from the top end of the market.

A Certification, Not Just a Process

Peace of Sleep™ is underpinned by a fully audited, on-demand allergy-management process that is dry, chemical-free, and administered with zero disruption to hotel operations. It requires no downtime and rooms remain sellable throughout, with no loss of revenue. Ongoing oversight is built into every certification tier, and properties are not simply awarded a mark once and then left to their own devices. Each is held to a standard that is continuously maintained and verified across three tiers.

The tiers are Assured, Distinguished, and Signature, and differentiate Peace of Sleep™ certification based on service frequency, giving properties a clear pathway from initial certification through to the highest standard of ongoing guest assurance. Holding the Peace of Sleep™ certification is intended to function as a mark of distinction, a badge a property earns, maintains, and can be proud to display. The hospitality industry's most respected accolades are worn with pride, and Peace of Sleep™ is designed similarly to be shared and displayed, building guest trust and confidence.

“Holding this certification is something a General Manager or property owner can be proud of. This is not just a promise, it is proof that guest wellbeing has been taken as seriously as everything else on the property,” says Wright.

Why it started in South Africa

Hospitality standards typically arrive in South Africa from elsewhere. Peace of Sleep™ is a homegrown certification developed and piloted in Cape Town's boutique hospitality sector, and now positioned for adoption by properties worldwide. As Wright says: “There's no reason the next hospitality standard has to come from London, Dubai, or New York. We built this here, tested it here, and proved it here first. If anything, being outside the traditional centres of hospitality innovation gave us room to solve a problem nobody else has focused on before,” says Wright.

Peace of Sleep™ is currently being introduced to a limited number of properties by invitation, ahead of a broader rollout. Properties interested in certification can request more information via email on assured@peaceofsleep.vip
