Peace of Sleep is a voluntary hospitality standard for sleep hygiene. A property that takes part has its mattresses professionally sanitised on a regular cycle, and that work is recorded, certified and made visible to guests. This article explains how the programme works.
Purpose
Most accommodation providers already do something about mattress hygiene. What has been missing is a way to show it: one standard, carried out the same way at every property, with a record behind it. Peace of Sleep provides that standard.
The service
Certification rests on a service carried out by trained operators. Each mattress is cleaned in the room, on the bed. Professional HEPA extraction removes dust, skin cells and allergen-carrying debris, and UV-C light then sanitises the surface. The process is dry and chemical-free, so the room can be used again straight away.
Every mattress in the property is included in every service, and each one is logged individually. A mattress takes around 15 to 20 minutes, and services are scheduled around the property's housekeeping.
Becoming certified
- An initial conversation about the property, its rooms and beds, and how often it would like to be serviced.
- A programme is agreed and the property signs a Participation Agreement.
- The first service is carried out and certified.
- The property is issued its Charter number, its certificate and an "assured until" date, and is listed in the Peace of Sleep directory.
The three distinctions
The standard is the same at every level. The distinctions differ only in how often the property is serviced.
- Assured: one service a year. Certification runs for twelve months.
- Distinguished: two services a year. Certification runs for six months.
- Signature: three services a year. Certification runs for four months.
Keeping certification current
Each completed service renews the property's "assured until" date. If the next service is not carried out in time, the certification lapses, and the property's verification page reflects that. A property is only shown as certified while its service records support it.
What a participating property receives
- A guest certificate with a QR code that opens the property's live verification page
- A framed Charter for display at reception
- A listing in the Peace of Sleep directory
- The Charter Suite, the property's own online workspace, with certificate customisation, a website badge, a printable QR code, prepared wording for websites and booking platforms, staff training material and a content library
- A mattress-level record of every service, available to owners and management
What a guest sees
A guest may notice the certificate in their room or the Charter at reception. Scanning the QR code opens the property's verification page, which shows whether the property is currently certified, until when, and the services behind that certification.
